Benchmarking RISC-V MILK-V Pioneer Box with SPEC CPU2017(Multicore/intrate)
By Ali Tariq | Oct 14, 2024

This blog describes the execution command and results for running the SPEC 2017 intrate on the MILK-V Pioneer box utilizing multi-thread capabilities. Following are the specifications of the device under evaluation.

Specifications

SoC Name: SOPHON SG2042
Number of Cores: 64
ISA String: rv64imafdc_zicntr_zicsr_zifencei_zihpm_xtheadvector (RVV0.7)
Memory: 128GB (4 sticks)
Operating System: Fedora 38
GCC Version: 13.2.1 (from package manager)

Execution Command

The execution command is as follows:

./bin/runcpu --config="$PATH_OF_CONFIG_FILE" SPECrate2017_int_peak --reportable

Results

Individual Test Results

The individual test results of the MILK-V Pioneer box are as follows:

Final (compared) Test Results

Following is the chart of test results of MILK-V Pioneer compared with previous test readings.

Base Rate Result

Peak Rate Result

Conclusion

From the above results, it can be seen that the MILK-V Pioneer is surely faster with 64 cores. However, due to low software support, kernel upgrades, and (to some extent) hardware limitations, it is still not ready for an apple-to-apple comparison with ARM or x86 architectures of the same computing power.
